The U.S. women’s sitting volleyball team sweep six matches (going 18-2 in sets) in winning the Dutch Tournament over the weekend in the Netherlands.

The U.S. led in kills (37-22), blocks (17-7) and aces (8-5).

The team used the tournament as a warmup for the Sitting Volleyball World Championships, which is scheduled to begin July 15 in Netherlands.

The U.S. Women are the defending Paralympic gold medalists, but have never won gold at the World Championships.

The Americans settled for silver in both 2010 and 2014. They are off to a 16-0 start on the season.

Outside hitter Katie Holloway, who has worked at the Reikes Center in Menlo Park and for the Palo Alto V.A. Hospital, led all scorers with 17 points on nine kills (.615), five blocks and a match-high three aces.

“It’s huge for us to spread the awareness to adult volleyball players who are passionate about the game so that we can include them in some of our training and get them playing the sport as well,” Holloway said earlier this season.

Opposite Heather Erickson added 15 points on 10 kills (.556), three blocks and two aces. Outside hitter Monique Burkland totaled 10 points on 10 kills. Middle blocker Lora Webster scored nine points on three kills, five blocks and one ace.

Setter Kaleo Maclay scored five points on two blocks, two aces and one kill. She set the team to a .430 hitting efficiency.

Middle blocker Nicky Nieves and Tia Edwards each scored one point.
