In the sitting volleyball competition, China’s men lost 3-0 (12-25, 19-25, 27-29) to Iran in the final but still qualified for Rio as the Iranians had already guaranteed their place by taking bronze the world championships in June.

This pattern was repeated, in reverse order, in the women’s event as China beat Iran 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15). The defeated finalists can now book their tickets to Brazil, as the Chinese women had already confirmed their Paralympic place at the world championships.

TEHRAN – Farid Saebi has been appointed as new head coach of Iran’s sitting volleyball team.

Saebi replaced Hadi Rezaei in the world’s most decorated sitting volleyball team.
The Iranian team is preparing for the 2014 Asian Para Games which will be held in Incheon, South Korea from October 18 to 24.
“We have four training camps prior to the Asian Games. Iran is going to win the gold medal in the competitions,” Saebi told Tehran Times correspondent.
Since Iran made its Paralympic debut in Seoul in 1988, its men’s Sitting Volleyball team has won five gold medals, only missing out on the top podium place in 2004 and 2012 when it lost to arch rivals Bosnia and Herzegovina in Athens and London.

Iran won the Asia Men’s Sitting Volleyball Championships on Saturday.

The Iranian team defeated Kazakhstan in straight sets (25-12, 25-23, 25-21) in Mashhad’s Shahid Beheshti Hall.
Mahmoud Goudarzi, minister of sport and youth affairs, sent congratulation messages to the sitting volleyball team.
Iran defeated Japan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia in the group stage and beat China in the semifinals to book a berth in the final game.
In the bronze medal match, China beat Iraq 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18).
In women’s section, China beat Iran in straight sets 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-15) and won the title.
The Iranian men’s and women’s sitting volleyball teams advanced to the 2014 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships, which will be held in Elblag, Poland from June 15-21 June.
